I hope this letter finds you in good health.

The practice specializes in total hip and knee joint replacement. In 2002, my son, Dr. Amar Ranawat joined the practice, specializing in total joint replacement, including hip and knee revisions. The most recent addition to the practice is my youngest son, Dr. Anil Ranawat, who has special expertise in joint preservation, including arthroscopy of the hip, knee and shoulder.

To accommodate our growing practice, we have decided to re-locate to the Hospital for Special Surgery. Our new office address and contact information is:

Dr. Amar Ranawat will continue to see patients and operate at Lenox Hill Hospital for those who desire to have their care at Lenox Hill.

In addition to our commitment to deliver the highest quality patient care, Ranawat Orthopaedics is dedicated to the research and the development of new methods to diagnose and treat arthritis from all causes. Our goal is to improve existing total joint technology and our knowledge of the disease process. To this end, we have conducted many important studies.

One of our most recent projects involves pain reduction after joint replacement surgery using a series of intra-operative injections into the soft tissue with selected medications to control post-operative pain.

Another area of research focuses on the use of MRI’s as a non-invasive tool to detect wear-induced implant failure. Currently, methods to detect early implant polyethylene wear require significant radiation exposure using X-rays and CT scans.

By studying the implants themselves, we hope to design the best possible hip and knee implant for maximum mobility, function and durability. In the past five years, we have published and presented over 100 articles of our research findings in major medical journals and conferences.

If you have had a joint replacement, your recovery and long-term progress are important to us. It is our desire to stay in touch. Please let us know if you change your mailing address, phone number or email. This may enable you to participate in future research projects that will benefit you and other patients having joint replacement surgery.

We look forward to hearing from you.

With kind regards,

Chitranjan S. Ranawat, M.D.
